large room , quiet, beautiful garden

Very pleasant countryside surroundings, close to pub with eal ale.

I paid to upgrade to an executive larger room, but the room was still very small, disappointing.

I liked the location of the hotel, and the grounds surrounding it. The hotel was impressive to look at and the drive leading up to it, was impressive.

During my stay, there was two wedding receptions at the hotel. Because of this, I was not able to dine in the restaurant, and instead had to use a room that had been used previously by one of the wedding party. The room was still decorated for a wedding. I also felt as if the staff were giving priority to ensuring the wedding guests were looked after. I felt the customer service during my meal was less than satisfactory. For most of the time, there was no staff present. A disk that was playing background music in the room, was stuck, and for 10 minutes I had to listen to it. I had to turn it off as it was annoying off putting.

My wife thought that the bath was great, although please see comments below also

Bathroom could have been cleaner, grout to tiles black / mould, sadly this let an enjoyable stay down a bit.

Setting was excellent, location was good for roaming around the area. The inside areas of the hall were charming, The grounds were amazing, food was good, staff freindly if not experienced for a hotel of this type.

A double executive room was tired and not really 4 star, so hot inside and no fan or a/c.Bed was small and not very comfortable, the matress needed replacing. Bar was not manned and very dis organised. Not really worth a 4 star tag in my opinion, the waiters were young and not very efficient in too many ways, the food took ages on a sunday night, Overall it was ok , but could have been so much better bearing in mind the building.

Unfortunatly the hotel got our booking wrong, we was booked into a double room and not a family room, luckily l had booking confirmation, out family room l was told had been given to golfers !! all resolved with a camp bed

Relaxed atmosphere and lovely old building - oak panelled lounge a pleasant place to sit and chat with family.

The staff were OK but not "slick". Checking in was a bit tortuous to get the right combination of twin and double rooms for my party (only 3 rooms though - should not be that difficult !) Breakfast on Saturday (when there were only a few guests) was not well organised - insufficient places set as people left, not enough bowls for breakfast cereal etc etc. Sunday morning many more guests for breakfast and buffet style but not kep well stocked as food was eaten. These were not a problem as we were at a family wedding for the weekend and therefore pretty relaxed but could have been annoying had we been off ot business meetings.

The meal in the restaurant was delicious, accompanied by a bottle of Rose, overlooking the gardens. Very relaxing and enjoyable. It was our wwedding anniversary when we stayed, we actually got married at Makaney Hall on the 4th June 2010, so we wanted to return to reminisce. Many happy memories, and we look forward to staying again soon.

The only area for improvement, would be an alternative bar for residents. When you have a wedding booked in, there are no provisions (other than remaining at the restaurant table), for wandering into the gardens with a drink or into the bar area. The only option is to order throuh the restaurant staff. I understand the need for segregation because as already mentioned, I got married there. Just think another bar would resolve this issue, and provide an alternative for non- wedding guests.

The room was large and comfortable

I've been charged twice for the room and still waiting to get a refund

Very peaceful. Reception staff were excellent and helpful. Very good senses of humor. Incredible view from dining room very excellent breakfast either continental or cooked. I would recommend this for large meetings or wedding groups. The hotel is very quiet. Wish I had had more time to enjoy the pleasant ambiance. But I was out touring the incredible beauty of the entire area. They nicely cater to quirky eaters such as myself as well.

There was a sour smell on the shower curtain reflecting mildew. I left my underwear to be picked up. It wasn'T. When I called about it it was picked up the next day. When I got it back, found that it had been taken to a staff's home and was brought back very damp. After I complained, as the price for laundry is hugely expensive, it was kindly taken off my bill. I had to ask also for extra blanket and pillows as there is only a thin comforter and one pillow. When staff left clean linens outside my door, they put them straight on the floor, which I thought was dirty. If they are going to put them on floors, would suggest a bag covering of some sort. Overall however these were minor issues compared to the total experience at the hotel.

Friendliness and efficiency of the staff. Comfort of the room. The grounds of the hotel.

Could do with a little decoration touching up eg. Chipped paintwork, new showers, different shower curtains so they don't stick to you.

Pleasant atmosphere in a nice setting. Convenient for weekend getaways and family reuinons.

Helpful staff, comforable room, good food, good location.

Confusion about breakfast prices and evening meal prices. I think that the breakfast price should be included in the room price as every other hotel does. There was also confusion over evening meal price, when we arrived we were offered an evening meal price of £20 for a three course meal so I booked 4 evening meals for £80, whe we tried to confirm this with the resteraunt manager that evening we were told that this deal was only from a limited menu and if we ordered anything from the full menue we would have to pay extra. I feel that I was misled and was very dissapointed and feel that this detracted from an otherwise pleasent stay at your hotel. Please sort this out for future guests.

We only stayed for the one night, but booking in was at 2pm, but we had to be at a wedding at 2pm and needed to change. there was no hesitation in accomodating us with a room that was free and clean and this was at around 11.15am! The bed was fabulously comfy, the views were gorgeous, i only wish we had had no plans so we could have mooched around and enjoyed the ambience and food. would definately go again. very old fashioned in a good way and fabulous value for money, thankyou.
